FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you based and how far are you prepared to travel?
Armarda are based in Ripley, Derbyshire and generally play venues within a 60 mile radius. The band are prepared to travel nationwide, subject to additional costs to cover transport and overnight accommodation if required.
How much do you charge?
Please contact Jackson Event Management for all private functions; Kevin Jackson can provide you with further information, a competitive quotation and confirm availability/payment terms. Our quotation will include the supply of a professional sound system, lighting, travel, any additional services and length of time the band are required to be on-site. Kevin will also provide a detailed contract confirming all arrangements.
Music venues, clubs and pubs, please contact Armarda direct on 07905 243235 or via e-mail.
Does the band have Public Liability Insurance?
Armarda have £5,000,000 Public Liability Insurance and all their equipment is PAT Tested to current safety standards. Certificates can be viewed on-line and/or produced in hard copy if requested by the venue.
How long do you take to set up and how much space do you require?
Typically the stage or performance area should approximately be 5m wide by 3m deep to accommodate all the bands equipment, PA system and lighting rig. It may be possible to set up in smaller spaces if required, please contact us for further advice, we will be happy to meet with you to look at any potential venue.
You should allow the band approximately 60 minutes to gain access to the room and set up all equipment. An additional 15 to 30 minutes will be required to carry out a sound check. Preferably the sound check should be carried out before the guests arrive or return to the function room, this can usually be accommodated at weddings when the venue is being prepared for the evenings celebrations. Arrangements can be made for the band to set up earlier in the day if the venue can accommodate.
In terms of the venue, what should I consider when looking to book a live band?
The band will require a minimum two 13 amp double power sockets, accessible from the stage/performance area. Best sound results are achieved in venues where the function room is carpeted or where there are soft furnishings (such as curtains) which help to break up large reflective surfaces.
Is your potential venue fitted with a Sound Limiter? In our experience, sound limiters are not 'live band' friendly, as they are designed primarily to control DJ style music. Although overall volume levels are similar to a disco, a live band has a much greater dynamic range. Failure by the venue to turn off the limiter will result in the show being interrupted - please ask that it be turned off as we cannot be held responsible for your event being spoilt. It may be possible for the band to use an alternative electricity supply connected to an alternative circuit within the venue.
In all cases a suitable/secure changing room should be provided, please note toilets are not considered suitable. Whilst we make no requests for access to refreshments or a buffet, the offer is always most welcome and makes for a happy band!
Can you perform in a marquee?
Yes, a marquee must be fully covered, water tight and safely accessible with a level stage area at least 5m x 4m; a minimum of three 13 amp power sockets will be required, or a suitable generator provided by a professional hire company. It may be necessary to hire a larger PA system for performances in a marquee, this is dependant on size and the number of guests attending.
The marquee must be easily accessible to load and unload equipment. We are not able to access over muddy fields or up/down grassy embankments. Should the marquee be deemed as unsafe due to inclement weather resulting in leaks, low temperatures and power cut outs, we reserve the right to cease performance at any time for our personal safety, that of our equipment and ultimately the safety of all your guests.
Do you use backing tracks?
No, Armarda are a four piece live act. No backing tracks or samples are used during the bands performance.
How long do you play for and what other services can you provide?
Armarda generally play two 45 minute sets however, the band can also offer one set (approximately 75 minutes long) which may be more suitable if you have additional entertainment booked such as a disco. The band can also provide a compilation of rock/pop songs between sets via an MP3 player connected to the PA system or arrangements can be made to connect your lap top or CD player. We can also recommend and have worked with an excellent DJ/disco if you prefer. A microphone can be made available for speeches etc if required.
Can I see you play before booking?
Yes, Armarda also play gigs at music venues which are open to the general public; please see our Gig Guide for further information. Our public performances offer you a great opportunity to see Armarda perform live and meet with the band to discuss your requirements in greater detail.
Hiya Kev, just to say a big thank you, Armarda and Union Jackson Disco were absolutely brilliant. Both the band and DJ Carole were so friendly and very entertaining. We would highly recommend them to anyone. People were shouting for 'more'. Our friends are very keen music and concert lovers so that was definitely a good sign. We loved them and they really made the night a perfect end to our wedding day. Everyone loved it. Many thanks, Emma & James. (Wedding reception, Bestwood Lodge Hotel, Arnold).
Kev, We had a great night and everyone thought Armarda were brilliant. They were excellent and most enjoyable. We will book them again at the club for sure. Armarda's performance made the night great. Kind Regards, John Hill, Melton Mowbray Rugby Club (private party)
Hi Kev, I can't thank you enough for Saturday the music was amazing both the band and Carole's disco were excellent! Everyone was really impressed and I don't think the dance floor was ever empty at any point. We really really enjoyed it all and folk were asking where we booked it all and so hopefully you may get some enquiries. James is a massive music buff and he is a serious guitar player and he and Lisa thought Armarda were brilliant. I was really chuffed because he wanted a band all along. Sue Warden (Wedding, Shottle Hall).
